Jeff Buchalter, MD

The chairman of the Gulf Coast Pain Institute

Dr. Buchalter completed his residency training at the Baylor College of Medicine and fellowship/subspecialty training in Pain Medicine at the University of Texas and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He is a diplomate of the  American Board of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine and Board Certified in Both  Specialties.  Dr. Buchalter is an Associate Clinical Professor on active staff at the Florida State University College of Medicine and is the  Chairman of the Department at the Gulf Coast Pain Institute. He has been selected as one of the Top Physicians in the America and by The American Registry of Outstanding Professionals. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of Spine Related Pain Disorders and Complex Regional Pain Syndromes.

Where did you grow up?
Orlando, FL.

What made you want to be a provider?
I have been involved with medicine since working for our family physician as a teenager.

What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
It is a wonderful feeling to see patients come in with intractable pain and leave pain free and happy.

In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a provider-patient relationship?
Compassion and trust.

What are your top priorities with every patient?
To relieve pain, restore function and renew hope.

Describe one of the top ways you ensure each patient receives the quality, personal health care he/she deserves.
Find never being in a hurry regardless of how far behind I am in my schedule.

What do you find most encouraging about the work you do?
We continue to find more effective treatments for complex pain disorders.

What's your proudest moment as a provider?
1- completing the publication of my first textbook. 2- being voted one of the most compassionate doctors in the USA. 3- Being voted as one of the top pain physicians in the world.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Working out, boating, reading, giving educational presentations, eating great food, spending time with my family, playing with our 3 dogs and a cat.

What aspect of your specialty is your favorite and why?
Ongoing patient care, intervention procedures provided to our patients, The associate clinical Professor teaching position I have at FSU College of Medicine.

Do you have any specific medical interest? If yes, what?
Diagnosis and treatment of spine related pain disorders.

What are the topics or areas of your specialty that you most enjoy educating patients about?
I am in charge of the pain management education division for FSU medical students and have a volunteer shadowing rotation for college students interested in medicine.

Do you have children? If yes, how many?
Two; 25-year-old son, Brandon, completing chiropractic school at Palmer Chiropractic California. 14-year-old, Hannah, entering 9th grade at Gulf Breeze Highschool.
