Susan Griffee, MD

Dr. Susan Griffee has extensive training in interventional pain/physical medicine, which includes three years of training and completion of her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Following her residency, Dr. Griffee completed an ACGME accredited fellowship in Pain Medicine at Louisiana State University Health Science Center and subsequently an Advanced Spine Interventional Fellowship in Tyler, Texas at the Texas Spine and Joint Hospital.

Prior to completing her residency at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Griffee received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed an internship in Transitional Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.  Prior to medical school, Dr. Griffee was a Division I basketball and tennis player at the University of New Orleans where she earned her undergraduate (BS-biology) and graduate degrees (Med-Sports Management).

In her spare time, Dr. Griffee is an enthusiastic competitor, having finished the Ironman Triathlon and Boston Marathon.

Where did you grow up?
Marion, Arkansas.

Where did you move from?
New Orleans, where I completed my Pain Fellowship.

What made you want to be a provider?
After numerous injuries from playing college basketball, I had the desire to help others who were in pain.

What about your line of work do you find most rewarding and why?
I love it when I am able to help a patient lead a healthy lifestyle and return to the activities that they enjoy.

In your opinion, what’s the most important factor in a provider-patient relationship?
Listening to the patient as they talk about their problem and individualizing a treatment plan.

What are your top priorities with every patient you see?
Establishing a patient history and then creating and implementing a treatment plan.

Describe one of the top ways you ensure each patient receives the quality, personal health care he/she deserves.
Offering and educating patients on current and cutting edge pain treatment options.

What do you find most encouraging about the work you do?
Helping a patient relieve their pain and improve their function.

What's your proudest moment as a provider?
Helping a patient who has suffered chronic pain become pain-free.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Running, biking, swimming, and triathlons.

What can a patient expect when they have you as a provider?
Comprehensive visit and an outlined treatment plan.

What aspect of your specialty is your favorite and why?
Procedures with fluoroscopy and ultrasound guidance because it often helps patients avoid surgery.

Do you have any specific medical interest? If yes, what?
Women’s health, interventional pain management, and regenerative medicine.

What are the topics or areas of your specialty that you most enjoy educating patients about?
I love talking to patients about a multidisciplinary treatment plan.
